When Albert Joseph White enlisted in 1899 in the 1st QMI and his details were published with the rank and file in The Brisbane Courier, 18 Nov 1899, he was recorded as Private A. J. White, single, Allora. He served the full tour of the 1st QMI returning to Brisbane where he was discharged on 23 Jan 1901.
Albert Joseph White was born on 28 Jul 1880 at Allora, a son to William White and Caroline Elizabeth White (nee Stiles). He married Emily Louisa Allen on 5 Dec 1923 in Queensland and they had 5 children. They lived in Warwick where Albert worked as a butcher.
When he passed in 1951 an obituary was published in a local Warwick newspaper as transcribed below.
Obituary: Albert Joseph White- The Warwick Daily News, 27 Feb 1951, p. 2.
On January 17 Warwick lost one of its most enthusiastic sportsmen in the death of Albert Joseph (Alby) White. Born at Allora, he was the second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William White.
Although very young at the time he was one of the first volunteers from the Allora and Warwick districts to be accepted for the Boer War and he became a member of the first contingent to leave Australia.
Even as a young lad he showed a keen interest in athletics and as he grew older adapted himself thoroughly in any sport in which he participated, whether boxing, footrunning, hurdling or football. He was a first-class masseur and for a number of years trained the "Walleroo" and "Wattles" football teams.
For over 20 years he had acted as timekeeper at the Warwick secondary school sports. For some time he was chairman of the Warwick Coursing Club and owned several dogs, the best of which, "Warwick Belle," won the cup presented to the club by the late Thos. Welsley on September 7, 1917.
His main occupation was that of master butcher, from which he retired several years ago.
Deservedly held in high esteem by all who knew him, Mr. White is survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters, three grand-daughters, two brothers, the Rev D. Bloomfield White, of Gunners Line, England, and Mr Ralph White, of Brisbane; and two sisters, Mrs. T. Wilson, of Warwick, and Mrs. E. Pickstone, of Lismore.
