George Ramsdale Witton was a Lieutenant in the Bushveldt Carbineers alongside Lieutenants Morant and Handcock. The trio were put before a British Court Martial, their defending officer was Major J.F. Thomas. The charge was the murder of 9 Boer Prisoners though the number may be higher. They were found guilty with Morant and Handcock put before a firing squad and Witton sentenced to hard labour. Witton later wrote 'Scapegoats of the Empire'
