Add my storyBiography
Harry Alfred Hornabrook of Bong Bong, New South Wales was born in Adelaide South Australia in 1876. Prior to enlisting at Liverpool New South Wales in September 1915, Harry bred cattle on his property near Bong Bong NSW and at 40 years of age had no previous military experience although would have been proficient with the rifle; he joined the Roseville Rifle Club six months before enlisting. His brother Rupert had served as a surgeon in the Boer War and this along with his age and lack of military may have had something to do with him being allotted to the Medical Corps.
Harry did not get the opportunity to serve overseas for he died from albuminuria and uraemic convulsions on 10 January 1916 at the Moss Vale Hospital, New South Wales.
His nephew, Leonard was killed in action on 21 May 1918, his brother Rupert, nephew Harold Hornabrook (OS) and brother in law, James Boatwright, all returned to Australia after the war. [i]
