Guy Burton HARDY was born in 1882 in South Australia
His parents were Charles Burton HARDY & Ellen MacDOWELL
He died on 17th April, 1916 and is buried in Kensal Green (All Souls )Cemetery in London
Biography
Guy Burton Hardy of St Peters, Adelaide, South Australia attended St Peters College 1892 -1897 and in the Great War served in the Royal Naval Air Service. Before merging with the Royal Flying Corps to form the Royal Air Force towards the end of the war, the RNAS was the air arm of the Royal Navy. Their major role was aerial reconnaissance, coastal patrolling, bombing enemy coastal areas, ships, balloons and submarines and for a time was responsible for the air defence of London.
Guy, a mechanical engineer left for England with the intention of gaining a commission in the British Army where he hoped he could put his knowledge of engineering to good use.
While awaiting a result on his application for a commission in the army he joined the RNAS where he was stationed at the Dover aeroplane headquarters
Mr. Guy Burton Hardy formerly a mechanical engineer in Adelaide, died on Tuesday in a London hospital, shortly after having been removed from his apartments in a West-End Hotel. He had lately been in poor health, and had arranged to return to Australia. [i]
Warrant Officer Class II Guy Burton Hardy, Royal Naval Air Service died in London on 17 April 1916; he was 33 years of age.
His brothers Alfred and Thomas, both Old Blues, served in the AIF as gunners in different Field Artillery Brigades and returned to Australia in 1918.
