Son of Lawrence Ulstrup and Catherine Amelia Ulstrup nee Unna of Franklin Street, Adelaide, SA. Brother of John Anton Ulstrup who returned to Australia 11 September 1915 having served in the 10th Battalion 

Commenced returned Australia on 1 November 1917 aboard HT Anchises disembarking on 1 January 1918
