Enlisted 1 Jan 1926 Royal Australian Naval College, Melbourne - Cadet Midshipman. Promoted Midshipman 1 May 1930. Sub-Lieutenant 16 Mar 1933. Lieutenant 16 Mar 1935. Intelligence Officer HMAS "Canberra" 12 Apr 1935. Loaned to Royal Navy Oct 1937-10 Feb 1939. Promoted Lieutenant Commander 16 Mar 1943. retired and transferred to emergency list RAN 9 Oct 1957.
