My Pop
'Pop lost his eye and part of his hearing when a hand grenade exploded near him. Pop is a source of great pride for me, and all of our family including his children and all of us grandchildren. We are eternally grateful for the freedom we now enjoy. R.I.P. ‘Pop’ Williams

Biography
Awarded the Military Medal for bravery.
Citation reads:
“On January 8, 1945, Private Williams was a member of a company advancing along the north bank of the Tavera River against strong enemy opposition. When the forward section was held up by enemy light machine gun and rifle fire, Private Williams moved forward, killed an enemy sniper, and wounded another. He moved further forward and engaged the enemy while the section evacuated casualties". On the following day, in an attack on a strong enemy position, he seized a Bren gun and moved forward to assist a forward section which had been pinned down by fire. Observing one of our men killed and two others wounded, he, in full view of the enemy, attempted to evacuate these casualties. He was wounded in the right eye, but carried on until forced to withdraw. Throughout the operation, Private Williams displayed cool, determined courage and utter fearlessness”.
