Flight Lieutenant in 4 Operational Training Unit

June 1943 Alan was a member of the crew of a Sunderland aircraft of No. 10 Squadron RAAF
which later came under attack from enemy aircraft during an anti-submarine patrol
in the Bay of Biscay.
