George Edward MILLER was born on 11th Sept. 1917 in Alexandria, Sydney
His parents were James Lawrence MILLER and Margaret Ellen SLATTERY
George had two brothers - Melville James Matthew MILLER b. 1913 d. 2003 who did not serve in WW2 but his other brother Herbert Lawrence MILLER (SN262583) died on the Kokoda Trail on 7th Dec. 1942
He joined the Army & attended Duntroon before joining the Corp of the Australian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers ( A.E.M.E) where he was a Staff Sergeant - He enlisted in Mataranka in the Northern Territory on 16th December, 1942
He was in charge of building airstrips in the Northern Territory and Islands to the north in advance of aircraft & troops, putting in roads & setting up camps. He was also in Darwin when it was bombed and sustained a knee injury which plagued him for the rest of his life when he was thrown up against a wall.
George married Dorothy Joyce PANNELL on 8th November, 1948 in Ashfield and had 2 daughters
His posting at discharge on 31st October, 1946 was with the 10th Australian Advanced Ordnance Workshops
George died on 29th March, 1999 at St George Private Hospital, Kogarah
