1943               New Guinea - Flying Officer John Ronald Mowbray, awarded the
                      United States Silver Star, for diving in a Wirraway aircraft of No. 4 Squadron RAAF
                      to tree-top level to locate enemy gun positions and direct Allied artillery fire onto them

17/11/1944     Squadron Leader of 4th Squadron - Papua New Guinea

March 1944      moved to Nadzab, New Guinea

28/3/1945       unit embarked at Lae
