LETTER FROM A NURSE

The following is taken from a letter to Miss B. Nichol, organist at East Essendon Church, from her sister, Miss Florrie Nichol, a former resident of Essendon, now a Red Cross nurse in England. Writing from the Aust. Aux. Hospital, Harefield, Middlesex, England, on July 26th, she goes on to say-"I have been awarded the Royal Red Cross. I was dreadfully nervous when going up to Buckingham Palace for the King to decorate me. I shall never forget what I remember of it.

The Cross is made of silver, Maltese in shape, with a circular opening in the centre, in which the King's head is engraved; the rest is red enamel, showing a margin of silver on the back. In the circular centrepiece are the King's initials, and on the other part of the cross, "Faith, Hope and Charity, 1883" are engraved. The ribbon to which the cross is attached is blue with a strip of red on either side.

It is a great honour and I don't feel I am nearly as worthy of it as many other of our girls. I am not talking from any sense of modesty, but from what I know to be the fact, and I should like to see many whom I could name honoured in a similar manner."
