Charles John Gardner was awarded a Life Membership by the RSL in 1970, he had been proposed by the Berri sub Branch. His work for the Returned Services League included State Councillor from 1963 to 70; President sub branch 1957-58, secretary 1955,56,61,67; committee1954,59,60,63,64,65,66,69,70; War Veterans Homes Liaison officer 1965,66,67 and Pensions Welfare Office 1965,66,67,70. Charles conducted a Sunday morning half hour broadcast for exservicemen through 5RM Berri from 1960 to present. District sub branches Berri, Winkie, Glossop and Monash representative to Berri War Memorial Community Centre. Associate member of the 2/43, 2/48, 2/27 and 2/10 Battalion Clubs. Regional Chairman of the Churhill Appeal. Member of CMF from 1950 until 1962, now an unifficial liason between CMF and exservice organisations.
