Alan Wilkes was awarded a life membership of the RSL. His work for the RSL was undertaken at the Alice Springs sub branch including, serving as president 1986,87,90,91,2001 and working on the committee 1982,83,88,89,95,97,2000. He was a hospital visitor for members. Alice Springs has a collection of memoriabilia alan assisted with manageing the collection for ten years. He initiated the Royal Australian Regiment in Alice Springs in 1995. Chairman of the Poppy Day Northern Territory for three years and member committee for 9 years. he was a Legate in South Australia.
