Reginald Ernest Heard was the Great Grandson of William Ellis, who fought at the Charge of the Light Brigade.
Born in England, the son of William Heard and Daisy La Farre who brought the family to Australia in 1922 when Reg was 10 years old. He had 6 brothers and one sister.
He Enlisted in 1941,as did his two brothers. They were all sappers in the 2/13 Field Engineers. One of them (Fred) died at El Alamain. He served in the Middle East and New Guinea.
He qualified whilst in the army as a driver, and later in life became a taxi owner driver. He remained single all his life.
