HMAS Goonambee was requisitioned for Naval Service on 28 June 1940, and purchased by the RAN on 29 June 1943.

She was commissioned on 9 August 1940 under the command of Lieutenant Commander E.M Andrewartha, RANR, until paying off on 21 June, 1944.

On 4 October 1944, she was sold to Cam and Sons Pty Ltd
