Malaysian Service
Malaysian service was unlike Australian service at Air Base Butterworth we were always armed with 9mm pistols and carried a shotgun in our patrol vehicles. We were responsible for the security and protection of Air Force Property including personnel, and in particular those residing in off base married quarters. Patrolling and Policing Brothels both near Butterworth and on Penang Island. Attending all traffic accidents including fatal's of Air Force personnel and their spouses. Discipline of all Air Force and visiting Australian 1970-89, and foreign Army personnel (New Zealand/Scottish companies stationed at Singapore until 1973). Reports in theft, assaults, vetting of intended asian brides. Forever vigilant for Communist Malay guerrilla insurgency, the Malaysian military forces were all on active service as the Communists were still attacking and killing civilians, police officers and army personnel up until 1989. I service there from 1972-74 and again briefly in April 1975.
