Story of Charles R R Buckingham
Charles R R Buckingham the second son of William John Buckingham and now the second last surviving son and was very ill(and for the rest of his life) during this time period because of him surviving double pneumonia & pleurisy. after the death of his older brother John he felt like he needed to do something like it was up to him now his dad and brother had been killed while still ill then in December 1917 he tried to enlist but was rejected and told he was useless because of him being ill.
Charles soon after ran away for awhile after the war and joined the merchant navy and travelled the world on the Windjammers.then the second world war broke out he now had a family of his own by then. In 1942 now at age 43 he went to enlist for the same reasons his father did but the doctor said he couldn't and that he was too ill to be passed and he wasn't letting history repeat again and to let his dad and brother down and he kept trying until one accepted him. he couldn't leave Australia because of his health so he was a Driver the Medical corps/ambulance transporting the wounded to the hospital playing a part of saving the wounded lives.
Charles also lived to be the oldest boy of his family he died at age 51 (his younger brother William john jr only lived to 41).
