Due to injuries I was medically discharged after 9 1/2 years service. I never wanted to leave the RAN and many colleagues joked and said they would never leave and some would say "as soon as I have finished my initial time I'm out!". I was one who joked about it because I didnt know what I wanted to do until it was taken away from me. Navy is all I knew after joining straight from high school. Following dischare I had many challenges adjusting to civilian life. I'm working on it with help from friends who are out now as well. I'm glad I have my son and wife to help me every day and keep that smile on my face.
I joined the forces because my Dad served and I wanted to start a tradition. I dont have a large service family because my family were coal miners in Wales and were needed there during the wars. I appreciate what my Dad has done in his service for the RN (Falklands War) and the RAN (submariner), so that is why I wanted to serve my country.
