Robert was the eldest son of Elizabeth Isobel Armour Webster (nee Mackie) and Stanley Charles Webster. He was born in Melbourne but the family re-located to South Australia in late 1967.
He was a National Serviceman who served in the Australian Army for two years from April 1969 until April 1971. This included service in Vietnam from Feb 1970 to Feb 1971.
He had a varied career as an accountant, a land valuer and a university lecturer. He retired in 2009 to volunteer for various activities.
His younger brother Ian, also served in Vietnam.
