Prior to the Ross PAINE was employed by a Grafton Farm Produce Carrier, a position he resumed for a short period following his discharge.
He later managed the Grafton Depot for Esso Petroleum before establishing his own trucking and transport business.
Ross died in Grafton on June 27, 2000 aged 80 years – his cremated remains are located in the Clarence Lawn Cemetery, Armidale Road, South Grafton, NSW.
