Served his blackmith apprenticeship with George Gribbes of Castlemaine, Victoria.

During 1907c Ambrose married Jessie W. Maude Farrar of Baillie Street, North Melbourne, Victoria

Commenced return to Australia on 4 May 1917 aboard HT Miltiades disembarking on 2 July 1917
