Frederick Herbert Thompson was born on the 19th of January 1888 in London, England. His parents were William and Mary Thompson. He was married to Mrs Alice Mary Thompson, with whom he had one child. They resided in Marlborough Road, Westbourne Park.
Prior to the 1st World War, Thompson was employed as a Hospital Assistant. Thompson enlisted on the 7th of October 1915 in Adelaide, South Australia, at the age of 28 9/12 years old, joining the Australian Army Medical Corps as a Private. On his enlistment papers, he stated he followed the religious denomination of the Church of England. He stood 6 feet tall, weighed 152 pounds, and had a fair complexion. His chest measurement was 35 inches, complemented by blue eyes and brown hair. He stated that he had been previously rejected for military service due to defect hemidiea. However, this time he passed the medical to enlist.
He embarked from Adelaide, Australia, 26th March 1916, landing in Tel el Kabir in Egypt, where he initially served under the 50th Battalion, before being transferred to the 2nd Stationary Australian Hospital on May 1, 1916.
He was soon advanced to Lance Sergeant on 23rd May 1916. By the 2nd July 1917, he rose to the position of Sergeant. The following year he was Sergeant X-ray attendant based in Moascar. He remained in the Middle East untl he took leave in May 1919.
Frederick Herbert Thompson returned to Australia on the H.T. Kamowna arriving in Adelaide on the 20th of October 1919. He was discharged from service on the 2nd of January 1920. He moved to NSW after the war and worked at Hospital. A Statutory Declaration dated 28th of March 1940 reveals he was living in Rozelle, Sydney.
He returned to live in Adelaide at some stage after the 1940's. Thompson passed away in Adelaide at the age of 81 on the 4th of October 1968. He was laid to rest at Centennial Park Cemetery in Pasadena, City of Mitcham, South Australia, Australia. (Memorial ID: 201342527).
