South Melbourne Professional Cycling Club lost one of its most popular members when John Eyre ('Jock') Warren died on April 3 as a result of head injuries sustained in a fall whilst training. Aged 21, he was not only a top-notch rider, with many successes in club, and L.V.W. open races, including two club championships, over a period of many years, but took an active part in club administrative work in varied positions.
He also took a great interest in new members, giving them help and advice and always setting them a splendid example. 'Jock' served for four fears as a R.A.A.F. pilot in Australia and overseas. His brother Ray, also a RAAF pilot and a prominent rider, was killed in an aircraft accident during the war.
Many members of the South Melbourne Professional Cycling Club rode to the funeral at the Box HilJ Cemetery, and placed a wreath in the form of , a bicycle on the grave.
