FOUND ON THE RAILWAY LINE.
Mr J Macalister, J. P., continued the inquiry yesterday into the circumstances surrounding the death of Henry James Bowles, a soldier, who was found badly injured on the railway line near Milton on August 25 and who died on September 3. Senior Sergeant R. Bell examined the the witnesses, and Mr J Hore appeared
on behalf of the Railway Department. Anne Bowles, mother of deceased, said that her son enlisted on August 23. On August 20 she went to the General Hospital and saw deceased. She asked "What happened to you, Harry ? " Deceased replied "I was on the railway line, and the cowcatcher must have
caught me." Witness asked if there had been
any foul play, and deceased answered "No. " Deceased was 27 years of age. From what deceased told her she believed that he met his death accidentally. Acting Sergeant Corney and Adjutant A. P. Strauss gave evidence, and the inquiry was further adjourned.
