Son of John and Charlotte LYON of George Road, Geraldton, WA.
He served with the Royal Australian Navy for seven years, taking part in the operations in East Africa from February to October, 1915, on the H.M.A.S. Pioneer. He was in the North Sea from the 10th March, 1916 to the 17th August, 1917, on the H.M.A.S. Australia, and from then until the signing of the Armistice on the H.M.A.S. Melbourne.
