Anzac Hostel - Keane's Point, WA (1920)

ANZAC HOSTEL. A HOME FOR DISABLED SOLDIERS.

AGREEABLE SURROUNDINGS.

The acquisition of Keane's Point as a site for the Anzac Hostel was an inspiration, and as it is to be formally opened by the Prince of Wales when he visits this State, a brief description of what is being done by the Commonwealth authorities towards the creation of the Hostel in such picturesque surroundings should be of interest. . . .

. . . Keane's Point, which is a public reserve, is leased for its present purpose at a rental of £150 per annum by the Commonwealth authorities from the State until such time as it shall cease to fulfil its purpose. The nursing staff consists of a matron, a senior nursing sister, and four staff nurses, all of whom have seen active service. . . .
. . . . . The matron (Miss Dunn) left in the first hospital ship, the Kyarra, in 1914, and saw service at Gallipoli, Egypt, France, and England. She returned from active service in 1918, and was then attached to the No. 8 A.G.H., or the Base Hospital, at Fremantle, as it is more familiarly known, and received her present appointment in January.

Matron Dunn, who will wear the Anzac star, has had the distinction of being mentioned in despatches for her service in France. . . .

The senior nursing sister (Miss McDonald) left at the same time as Matron Dunn, and saw service in the same war zones. She returned in 1919, and was attached to No. 8 A.G.H. until last March.
