Died on this date – 30th August…… William George Henry McCarthy was born on 25th December, 1873 at Plymouth, Devon, England.
His father Bartholomew McCarthy died in 1880 at Plymouth, Devon, England.
William McCarthy joined Royal Navy on 16th April, 1894 for a period of 12 years. He was a Labourer & was given an Official number of 276519 (Devonport) as Stoker 2nd Class.
On 2nd December 1895 while serving in “Hawke” he was promoted to Stoker.
William George Henry McCarthy married Laura Roberts. Their marriage was registered in March quarter, 1900 in the district of Plymouth, Devon, England. A son – William Samuel Francis McCarthy has been born on 21st December, 1899.
From 1st March, 1913 Stoker William George Henry McCarthy was on loan from Royal Navy to Royal Australian Navy for an initial period of 3 years. His official number was 8020.
He was transferred to H.M.A.S. Sydney on 27th June, 1913.
Stoker William George Henry McCarthy died on 30th August, 1918 at Scapa Flow, Scotland from Heart failure.
He was buried in Lyness Royal Naval Cemetery, Hoy, Orkney Islands, Scotland.
