We have been advised of the passing of Lt P Ryland Edwin Gill, on Wednesday 21 August 2019 late of Mackay Qld.
Born in Western Australia on 01 April 1935, Ryland originally joined the Army, but transferred to the Navy to pursue his love of flying. He qualified as a pilot and flew both Gannets and Westland Wessex before paying off when Melbourne was decommissioned. Ryland made the 20,000th landing on HMAS Melbourne 816 Sq. in Gannet 894 .
He joined QANTAS as a pilot before retiring in Queensland. He leaves three sons.
Ryland’s funeral was at the Anglican Church in Mackay, in QLD, on 6 September 2019.
