Son of Charles Augustus Vivian and Josephine Vivian of Sydney, NSW

Pinto was granted six months leave to travel to Australia via America at his own expense. Pinto boarded SS Merlita at Liverpool, England on 15 August 1919 for New York. He was later booked to travel to Australia from San Francisco on 9 September 1919 aboard SS Sonomo disembarking on 30 September 1919.
