Add my storyBiography contributed by Chris Buckley
Syd was the fourth of seven children of Percy Harold Redman (born 1888 in Mirim Pirim, Victoria) and Violet Ellen Parke (born 1896 in Warragul, Victoria). Percy was a Farmer in 1916 when he married Violet at Moe in Gippsland, Victoria. By 1928 the family had moved to Stratford where Percy worked as a Contractor.
Syd was in Stratford in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. He was a Private (Service No:V285443) attached to LHQ Gas School when he was Discharged in November 1944. Sister Elsie May (Lieutenant, Service Nos:QX40950/Q142204) and brother Colin Robert (Private, Service Nos:VX112681/V41182) also served in WWII.
In 1946 Syd married Myree Maxwell Bedggood (born 1927 in Geelong, Victoria) and they settled at Yallourn in Gippsland, Victoria. Syd had an extended period of unemployment following his Service in WWII, and in the early 1960s was working as a Tractor Driver. Syd died in 2007 and Myree in 2020. Syd was described in the Death Notices (Herald Sun: 7 May 2007) as a quiet, gentle man - much-loved Husband of 61 years, Dad, Pop and Old Poppy who loved his family, fishing and gardeneing.
