4 Mar 1919: Honoured Military Cross, The Battle of Amiens, 8th August 1918 at Accroche Wood, Somme. Although wounded, Lt Davidson advanced through Accroche Wood. When his platoon was held up by a MG he lead a party forward killing three and capturing two with an MG captured. Lead his platoon through to second objective where he collapsed through loss of blood and exhaustion.

47 years ago today, on the 9th February 1973, Lieutenant Oliver Provan Davidson (M.C.), 34th Battalion, plumber and gas fitter (shipbuilding), from College Street, Stockton, New South Wales and King Street, Stockton, N.S.W. and 19 Douglas Street, Stockton, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 78. ANGLICAN 1-63. 17.

Born at Stockton, New South Wales on the 12th May 1894 to Thomas Stuart and Jane Davidson; husband of Yda Rose Davidson nee Thompson (married 1920, died 1979), Ollie enlisted January 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Wounded in action - 12.10.1917 (GSW left hand, 1st Battle of Passchendaele), 8.8.1918 (GSW hand - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article140974422), Mr Davidson was awarded the Military Cross 20.9.1918 - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article137492404, and returned home November 1919.
