Daniel was the 2nd of 5 children of Daniel Tangney (born in New Zealand) and Mary (Dot) Anna Josephine Larsen (born in Cairns, QLD). His father was a railway Guard in regional WA, and a Hotelkeeper in Dampier WA in 1916) and served as a Private (Service No: 17014) in the AIF Railway Corps in 1918.
Daniel was a Clerk, living in Maylands, Perth, WA when he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1940. Following his Discharge in 1945, Danile returned to work as a Clerk, and lived in Maylands, Perth WA until his marriage to Lorna Catherine Kennedy in 1954. Lorna had served with the RAAF as a Corporal (Service No: 99597) with the RAAF Laverton Transit Departure and Reception Centre from 1942 to 1947.
Daniel and Lorna moved to Midland Junction, WA in 1954, where Danile died in 1955.
Younger brothers Frederick Canning and Jack Roslyn also served in the Australian Defence Forces during WWII
