Frederick Canning Tangney was the third of five children of Daniel Tangney (born in New Zealand) and Mary (Dot) Anna Josephine Lawsen (born in Cairns, QLD). Daniel worked as a Railway Guard in regional WA, and as a Hotelkeeper in 1916 in Dampier WA. Daniel had enlited with the AIF Railway Corps as a Private (Service No: 17014) in 1918.
Fred was a Plasterer in Perth, WA when he enlisted in the RAAF in 1942 - employment he resumed on his Discharge in 1945.
Fred married Wilma Ernestine Lake in Perth, WA in 1946, and the family moved to Liverpool in Werriwa, NSW following Fred's Discharge from the RAAF. Fred worked as a Plasterer until his death in Werriwa, NSW in 1956.
Brothers Daniel Lawsen and Jack Roslyn also served witht he Australian Defence Forces in WWII
