SADLER, Vincent William Stewart (1887-1967)
Born on 16 July 1887, Vincent William Stewart Sadler was the son of William Sadler and Frances Elizabeth nee Stewart.
He was a day student at Geelong College commencing in 1902. His entry address was Garden Street, East Geelong.
During World War I, he enlisted (No. 14442) as a Driver with the AIF on 11th August 1916, and served in France with the 6th Field Artillery Brigade from February 1918, where he was injured when thrown from a mule while on watering parade in August 1918. He returned to Australia, embarking on HMT Warwickshire on 5 April 1919.
Vincent's younger brother, Norman Henry Sadler MM (1895-1916), was killed on 30 August 1916 near Contalmaison, and buried at Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-la-Boiselle. A second brother, Stanley Palmer Sadler (1890-1959), was also educated at Geelong College.
He also lost two cousins in the Great War, Pte Henry Sadler, 8th Battalion, who died on Gallipoli on 1 May 1915 of wounds and who has no known grave, his name being commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli; and Dvr Hector Alfred Sadler, 106 Howitzer Battery, who was killed on 30 July 1916 and buried at Gordon Dmnp Cemetery, Ovillers-la-Boiselle.
Vincent died on 27 October 1967.
