Richard (Dick) was the eldest of five children of William George Walker (born in Ballarat, Victoria) and Annie Bryant (born in Warrabrook, Victoria).
Dick married Eileen Josephine Tangney in 1934 in Perth, Western Australia where he was working as a Carrier. He enlisted in the RAAF in 1942, and continued to live in Perth, Western Australia and work as a Carrier until his death in 1983
