John Thomas BARR enlisted, at the grand age of 44 years and 11 months, in February 1916. He had been born in Ardstraw Bridge, County Tyrone, Ireland and married Jane French in Drayton QLD on 1 January 1897. He embarked with the 5th reinforcements to the 4th Pioneer Bn in September 1916. He undertook further training before transferring to the 6th Field Company Engineers. He was hospitalised in May 1918 and returned to Australia in October 1918.
His son, James Victor BARR enlisted on 2 September 1915, at the age of 18 and was killed when hit by a German shell on 12 may 1918.
