Biography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon

William was born in Hamilton, NSW, the son of George & Muriel Embelton who were Hotel Keepers. He was the fifth born child of six children. After completing High School in 1938 at the age of 15 years he commenced his apprenticeship as a Tailor; his apprenticeship was interrupted as he joined the Army on 6 August 1941 and served during World War II in Darwin and Morotai (Dutch East Indies). He married Joan Hope Findlay on 27 December 1941 a few months before he joined the Army. He was discharged from the Army on 17 January 1946. Bill completed his apprenticeship and worked in the Clothing Industry for about 6 years. Joan and Bill had three children, Anthony & Richard; their second son was still-born. Joan lost her battle with breast cancer on 21 May 1952 leaving Bill a widower with two young boys aged 9 yrs & 3 yrs. After Bill left the clothing industry he worked as a Barman at the Tom Uglys Hotel (Blakehurst, NSW) and in the Bottle Dept of the Caringbah Inn and then decided to try his hand as a Travelling Salesman working for Buckinghams (later became Waltons). He was a top Salesman and very exacting with figures and money and won many awards. He retired from Waltons in 1980. Bill married his second wife, Mavis in 1963 and they were together for 22 years until her death in 1985. Bill lived for almost 40 years in Sans Souci, NSW and was a member of the Ramsgate RSL Club where he became an almost daily visitor after he surrendered his driver's license. Due to failing health Bill moved to Victoria in 2009 to be near his Son, Richard and spent the last six months of his life in Balmoral Grove Nursing Home, Geelong, Victoria. Bill was an honest, kind, caring and generous person, a devoted and loving husband and father, friend and uncle, grandfather & great grandfather. He had the "gift of the gab", was very much a people person and would strike up a conversation with anyone. One of his credible attributes was his respect for the feminine gender, he was "old school", charming and debonaire and even in his 70's and 80's he could still charm the ladies. He definitely lived a full and good life.

Written by his Loving Niece, Lynette.
