Lorin was the younger of two children of Clarence (Ray) Raymond Williams (born 1901 in Gormanston, Tasmania) and Janet (Jen) Elizabeth Hutton (born 1900 in Penguin, Tasmania). Father Ray was a Postal employee - Clerk and Postmaster) in Tasmania (and briefly in Monto, QLD) and served with the  ACMF (Service No: Qi56155) in Monto, QLD in WWII.

Lorrie was working as a Postal Assistant in Sheffield, Tasmania when he enlisted in February 1942 in the AMF (Service No: T28640) and served with 22nd Australian Motor Regiment. He was Discharged in October 1942 and enlisted with the Australian Army as a Signalman (Service No: TX12027) with 2 AIF 12 Australian Telephone Operators Section. He served in New Guinea and the Solomons and took his Discharge in QLD on 11 June 1946.

Lorrie was employed after his Service as a Farm Trainee in Sheffield, Tasmania and in 1950 he married Ailsa Dorothy Williams in Sarina, QLD. Lorrie and Ailsa lived at Table Cape in Tasmania where Lorrie was a Farmer until his death at Chasm Creek in a car accident in 1974. Ailsa was severely injured when the car they were driving ran into a back hoe late at night.
