On leaving College, David Elsey secured a position with Macdonald, Hamilton and Co. and at the outbreak of the war was with the Merchant Navy. In 1942 he was Purser on the S.S. Nankin when it was captured by a German raider. For two years no word was heard of him until in May this year news was received through the Red Cross that he was interned in Japan together with theCaptain and some of the passengers. Other members of the crew are also known to be interned elsewhere in Japan.
