Louis (Lou) was the second child of Frederick John Miller (born 1887 in Upper Piper, Tasmania) and Bessie Margaret Allen (born 1882 in Sandhurst, Victoria). Fred, a Labourer, and Bessie married in 1910 in Tasmania.
Lou was a Mechanic in 1937 when he married Rosina Maud Crole (born 1911 in Trowutta, Tasmania). Rosina was a Tailoress, and they settled in Smithton, where Lou enlisted in the Army in January 1942. He served as a Bombardier (Service No: TX6742) with 68 Search Light Battery.
Following his Discharge in February 1944, Lou and Rosina lived in Smithton where Lou continued working as a Mechanic. By 1954 he was a Garage Proprietor, and died in 1981. Rosina died in 1979.
