John was the second child of John (Bill) William Dearle (born 1876 at Arthur River in WA) and Emily Isabel Collins (born 1880 in Williamstown, South Australia). Bill grew up in the Katanning/Kojunup region of WA and was a Stablekeeper and Farmer. In 1897 at Coolearrup he was bitten on the finger by a snake - Bill's younger brother cut the finger off. Bill and Emily married in 1911 in Clarmont, WA, and settled in Greenbushes where Bill was a Timber Hewer and Horse Driver. The family moved to Leederville in Perth in 1917.
John was a Shop Shop Assistant in Mundijong, WA and enlisted in the Australian Army in 1940, serving as a Sapper (Service No: WX7354) with 2/22 Australian Field Park Coy RAE. On leave in 1941, he married Irene (Rene) Belfrdge Clarke (born 1917 in Perth, WA). Following his Discharge in January 1946, John and Rene settled in Perth where John was a Labourer. He died in 1992 and Rene in 2001.
In 2003 the Town of Cambridge allocated names to 'Rights of Way' - naming then after WWII veterans who had lived in the town at the time of their enlistment. Dearle Lane was named after John.
