Colin, the toungest of five children of Clifford Vincent Campbell (born 1890 in Clare, South Australia) and Dulcie Gibney (born 1888 in Broken Hill, NSW) was ten years of age when his mother died. His parents were married in 1910 in Boulder, WA and his father worked most of his life in the Goldfields region.
Colin enlisted in 1942 in the Australian Army, serving as a Private (Service No: WX31335) with the Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers 2/50 Ligh Aid Detachment.
Brothers Ivan Harold (Service No: 415506) and Fordyce Jack Charles (Service No: WX1942); and Brother-in-Law George Watson Blackwood (Service No: WX3433) also served in WWII. George was Lieutenant Colonel with the Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
Colin returned to Bunbury following his Discharge in 1947, and worked as a Apprentice Fitter before moving to Victoria, where he married Nita Joyce McCulloch (born 1932 in Tasmania).
