Lex was the fifth of six children on Alexander Elgin Porter) born 1881 in Bundaberg, QLD) and Jane Fuller (born 1881 in Toowoomba, QLD). Alexander and Jane married in Toowoomba, QLD in 1901 and raised their family in Pittsworth on the Darling Downs in QLD, where Alexander was a Farmer and Grazier. Jane died in 1914, shortly after the birth of daughte May. Alexander then married Elizabeth Talbot (born 1881 in Ireland) in 1918.
Lex was an Electrician in Brisbane, QLD, where he married Miriam Merle Fletcher (born 1940 in Brisbane, QLD). He enlisted in the RAAF in August 1940 and was a Flight Lieutenant (Service No: 23516) with 55 PTC. Lex was Discharged in December 1945.
Brother Norman John served in the Australian Army as a Sapper (Service Nos: QX19248/Q14642) and Brother-in-Law William George Drew served as a Sergeant (Service No: 24534) with the RAAF.
Following his Discharge, Lex and Miriam divorced and Lex worked briefly as a Salesman in Brisbane, QLD before moving to Clermont in QLD in 1949, where his brother Norman was also working. Lex was a Tank Sinker and in 1950 married Joan Violet Salmond (born 1922 in Clermont, QLD). Lex and Joan settled in Clermont where Lex was a Contractor. In 1970 they moved to Rockhampton, QLD, before retiring in Yeppoon. Lex died in 1999 and Joan in 2011
