Jack was the second of three children of Francis McCann (born 1876 in Geraldton, WA) and Ellen Maude Harris (born 1880 in Victoria). Francis, a Storeman, and Ellen married in 1905 at Claremont in Western Australia.
Jack, a Labourer living at Canning in WA married Kathleen Harrington (born 1911 in Claremont, WA) in 1934. They had divorced by February 1942 when Jack enlisted in the Army. He served as a Private (Service No: WX19477) with 2/96 Transport Platoon, 2/5 Transport Platoon AASC, 143 Australian General Transport Coy AASC and the Australian Armoured Regiment AASC. Jacl was hospitalised with Malaria, and was in New Guinea in 1945.
Following his Discharge in December 1945, Jack returned to Perth, WA and in 1946 married Dahne Isabelle Gibb (born 1924 in Kelmscott, WA). The marriage did not last long, and Jack worked as a Labourer, living in Victoria Park and Bentley in perth, WA until his death in 1969.
