Curly was the fifth of eleven children of Louis John Gibbs (born 1886 in Canning, WA) and (first wife) Edna (Kate) Kathleen Weir (born 1888 at Milparinka in NSW. Louis, a Civil Servant with the Public Works Department, married in Perth in 1908. Kate died in 1930 - 2 years after the birth of her youngest child - and Louis remarried in 1931 to Ethel Imrie (born 1887 in Newcastle, NSW).
Curly married Dorothea Beatrice Hart (born 1918 in Collie, WA) in Perth and in November 1942 he enlisted in the Army. Curly was a Sapper (WX35321) attached to 67 Deputy Commander Royal Engineers when he was Discharged in October 1945. Brothers Senly (RAAF, Service No:16714) and Robert (Service No:W342314) served in WWII, as did Brothers-in-Law Ian Cyricl Winsor (RAAF, Service No:7222), Frederick Charles Willis (RAAF, Service No:46744), and John George McCann (Service No:WX19477).
Curly and Dorothea settled at East Perth in WA, where Curly was a House Painter. Curly died in 1977 and Dorothy in 2007 in Albany, WA.
