Military Medal
Citation: Continued bravery in Western Desert 23 Oct 42 to 23 Jan 1943
Citation Details:- Sapper Broadhurst's courage and worth have long been outstanding. During the recent operations in the Western Desert they were again most marked. On the night of the 23/24 Oct 42, he was attached to the "D" Coy 2/17 Aust Inf Bn (a leading Coy of an attacking Bn), for dealing with anti- personnel mines. Despite heavy fire he covered the Coy front continuously, disarming anti-personnel mines and "booby traps", warning and assisting the infantry in a way that excited the admiration and comment of the Infantry Coy Commander.
Subsequently he volunteered and acted as runner between his Fd Coy and 2/13 Aust Inf Bn, then closely engaged, passing several times through heavy fire. Later he guided two "Scorpions" forward through the minefields. Always forward, he was subsequently wounded, but declining to be evacuated, was allowed to remain on duty.
Before and since this occasion, Spr. BROADHURST has been tireless and fearless in action, His initiative, enthusiasm, constant cheerfulness and disregard of danger have been an inspiring example to his comrades in arms.
