Son of Richard John and Betsy Alice RICE (nee HOURD), of Manjimup, Western Australia.
Younger brother - 29990 RAAF Sgt Julian Patrick RICE (died 23/9/1943 from an aeroplane crash in Tarlee, South Australia, buried in Mallala War Cemetery).
Both parents served in WWI, Father Richard John was 22443 a Gunner with 8th Field Artillery Brigade and mother Betsy Alice served as a Nurse with the British Emperial Forces.
