Martin was the youngest of four children of Mikal (Michael) Larsen (born 1865 in Norway) and Anna Greta Martensdotter Wast (born 1861 in Finland). Michael - a Master Mariner - married Anna in Melbourne, Victoria in 1891 and they moved to Albany, Western Australia in 1900 before settling in Fremantle, WA. Following Michael's death in 1913, Anna relocated to Perth where she raised her children.
In 1926 Martin was working as a Warehouseman in Perth, WA when he married Charlotte Elsie Weaver (born 1901 in Perth, WA). The couple settled in Perth, and Martin was working as a Warehouseman when he enlisted in the Army in August 1940. He was a Private (Service No:WX7110) attached to HQ AIF (ME) when he was Discharged in October 1945.
Martin and Charlotte remained in Perth, and Martin worked as a Labourer until Retirement. He died in Perth in 1980, and Charlotte died in Boyanup, WA in 1991.
