Tom was the youngest of three children of Thomas Moses Liptrott (born 1873 in Lancashire, England) and Jane McLardy (born 1881 in QLD). Thomas (a Fireman) and Jane married in Sydney, NSW in 1903.

Tom was a Plumber living in Neutral Bay, Sydney, NSW when he enlisted in the Army on 16 Decemeber 1941. He was a Corporal (Service No:NX78990) attached to 12 Australian Small Ships Coy when he was Discharged on 24 May 1946.

Tom returned to work as a Plumber and was living in Neutral Bay, Sydney, NSW in 1955 when he married Eunice Isabelle Kubler (born 1918 at Kent's Lagoon near Boonah, Ipswich, QLD). Tom and Eunice settled in Sydney, NSW where Tom worked as a Plumber. He died in 1997.
