Private Walter Hamilton Lamb (Service No:8230) enlisted in the AIF on 22 July 1915 and served with 19th Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) 2nd Field Bakery in Alexandria and France. Private Lamb embarked from England for Melbourne on 11 May 1919 on board HT Zealandia and was Discharged on 22 August 1919.
Walter was born in Fyansford, Geelong, Victoria in 1878, eighth of eleven children of David Lamb (b1836 in County Monaghan, Ireland) and Jane Rock (b1845 in Geelong. Victoria). David immigrated in 1854, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the SS John and Lucy. David (a Farmer) and Jane married in 1863 in Geelong, Victoria and lived in Burrumbeet, Ceres and Gherninghap where David was a Grazier and Publican (Ocean Child Hotel).
Walter was a Farmer in Belmont, Victoria and following his Discharge married Clarice Tomkins (b1904 in Beaufort, Victoria) in Ballarat in 1925. Walter and Clarice settled at Burrumbeet where they raised their family and Walter was a Farmer until his detah in 1931 (he was driving to fetch a Doctor to attend to Clarice who was ill, when he suffered a heart attack and died at the wheel). Clarice remarried in 1933 and died in 1958.
